You will be required to make some kind of payment in advance for the services of a divorce or family law attorney and you should expect to pay a consultation fee as well.

Why should I hire a lawyer to handle my divorce?

Many people believe that they can handle their divorce without the assistance of an attorney.  If you own anything, such as a home or a car or have children with you spouse you should get a lawyer. Property, such as a home or a car must be transferred in a specific manner to be legally correct.

People also think that using one lawyer will save them money. In the short term, using one lawyer can save the money. Just remember that in Texas, a lawyer can't represent both parties to a divorce. This means that only one party has representation and that party has an advantage.
